  • WTF Friday!

WTF Friday will be a weekly blog post here at Buyur, dedicated to us explaining to you what the most unheard of products are for, what they do and why they are needed in your life! We aren't talking about the obvious things such as printers and phones...we mean the things that seriously make you go WTF!? What's this for?! Here at Buyur HQ we see hundreds of things come through our doors on a regular basis that make us react just like that, so we thought we need to do something about it...

This week we are looking at the Corsair XX600.

This product has been staring me in the face for weeks and I seriously have had no idea WTF this is. It could have been anything....maybe a cooker? A gaming component? An engine? I really did not have a clue...until now.

The Corsair CX600 is in fact a power supply.  According the Corsair though, this is not any old power supply. It actually features a thermally-controlled 120 mm fan for quiet operation and active power factor correction circuitry for clean, reliable power output. The extra long, sleeved cables allow easy integration into a wide variety of cases, and the large number of connectors assures compatibility with nearly all components. CX Series power supply units are an excellent choice for basic system builds and desktop PC computer upgrades. So if you are clever enough to build your own PC this is most definitely the device for you.

    Large-Diameter, Thermally Controlled Fan

Once you’ve installed a PSU, you shouldn’t have to think about it. Employing a thermally controlled fan makes the CX Series quiet at idle, and the large diameter reduces noise even when you’re pushing your system hard. If you like perfection this is deemed to be just that.

Not forgettting Black Goes with Everything

You’re building a PC, not a battleship, and appearance counts. The matte black finish and all-black sleeved cables and connectors help give your system a high-tech, restrained look. After all the look of the finished product is just as important as the functionality.

    Now you know...

So hopefully, now you have a better understanding of  this product is. It is designed for the dedicated geeks of the world! If you know someone with high tech understanding and are undertaking a mission of their own in building devices, then this power supply may just be for them. Lucky for our Buyur customers we have this available on our website at the unbelievable price of £54.29. So that's affordable as well as reliable.

Garmin Vivofit 2 Wireless Fitness Wrist Band and Activity Tracker - Black @ £66.20

    http://www.buyur.co.uk/vivofit-2-activity-tracker-with-move-bar-and-alerts-black.html

It even reminds you to stay active throughout your day with its move bar with audible alert that lets you know when you’ve been idle for an hour or longer. Research shows prolonged periods of inactivity such as sitting at a desk decreases your body’s production of fat-burning enzymes. You can reverse that effect by taking frequent, short walk breaks throughout your day. And while you might lose track of time and forget to move, vívofit 2 knows. A red move bar appears on the display and a gentle alert sounds after one hour of inactivity. The move bar builds every 15 minutes until you reset it by walking for a couple of minutes.

  • Google Maps gets offline navigation and search:

You're on way to an unknown destination. You have no idea where you are going and your every move relies on Google Maps' efficiency of getting you there and then... it all goes wrong.

Your signal on your phones dies. You have no service. Consequently you have no maps, no idea where you are going and the worst road rage imaginable. Sound familiar? To me it is anyway. It would be so much easier if you could only download the map beforehand and all our problems would be solved.

Well it looks like Google may finally have the answer.

Google announced on Tuesday that they have a major revamp for their maps which includes featuring offline maps.

You will now be able to search maps by city, towns or by selecting a single point on the map and then you can simply click download. It will then bring up a map for you to decide the exact area you want to download. Once the area is downloaded, you can get directions, information about what is nearby and it is all available offline...horrahh! No more stressing  over signal and internet connection and most importantly...no more road rage.

    Product manager, Amanda Bishop said:

"Users now don't have to do all that screenshot jujitsu before they leave [in case they lose access], and there's much faster load times for search and driving directions.

"Everybody on our team who uses it can't stand it when they have to use the old app because it's crazy how frequently you find yourself seeing that spinner waiting for results. Once you get used to it returning them in a second every single time, you quickly get used to how snappy the app feels."

At the moment it appears that this is all important update is only available to Android users. However, the iOS update is a work in progress. So hopefully, it will be something we can all take great pleasure in, during the next few months.

    Bravo Google!

  • WTF?! Friday

WTF Friday will be a weekly blog post here at Buyur, dedicated to us explaining to you what the most unheard of products are for, what they do and why they are needed in your life! I'm not talking about the obvious things such as printers and phones...we mean the things that seriously make you go WTF!? What's that for?! Buyur HQ see hundreds of things come through our door on a regular basis that make us react just like that, so we thought we need to do something about it...

This week we are looking at the DJ Control Wave from Hercules.

I don't know about you, but when I first saw this product I was like WTF is that?! I actually thought at first it was a control pad for a plane or a plane simulator LOL. It wouldn't have surprised me though...we really do get some crazy stuff through our doors. In fact, what it actually is, is a two deck DJ controller made wireless especially for iPads-pretty cool hey?

Just to point out though...it does look quite similar to a plane control pad ;)

Anyway, the DJ controller is a Bluetooth powered deck for mobile DJs, home DJ's and enthusiasts. The controller pairs up with your iPad for a wireless and portable experience, fantastic for you to just pack away in your bag for on the go sets. The controller allows you to mix, scratch and manipulate audio files wirelessly all from your iPad.  All you have to do is simply turn the device on and pair the two up and download the free DJUCED DJW software available from the App store. Really easy and simple steps to follow...just how we like it.

The design on this is sleek and slim, with smart back lighting and enclosed features, making it accessible in lo-light conditions, perfect for late night clubbing scenes. A built in lithium-ion battery is also included and can power the device for up to 8 hours...so you can party allllll night! The iPad support stand is also adjustable in order to meet your specific and personal requirements and the rear of the controller offers extendable feet for strong and stable positioning. The controller also has two jogwheels with metal plated tops, channel and crossfader, EQs and the usual expected buttons a DJ would have. In addition to all these features, there are also two knobs for basic loop control (I'm guessing DJ's will understand this term?!) What I am getting at here is that, this is a pretty smart piece of equipment, as you will see below.

The DJControlWave has a convenient stand for your iPad.

If you want a sneak peak of these up and running, then take a look at the video below, which shows the DJ Control Wave in all it's glory. Who needs this in their life then? Anyone with a flair to taking up DJing. This is a real step on the ladder for beginners wanting to learn, without wanting to spend an arm and a leg or even an already experience DJ who is always on the move and in need of something a little more practical and portable. Whoever or whatever your need for this is, I can guarantee this is a fantastic little investment. They are available on our website now at £146.11...go go GO before they are gone!

  • Google launches Drone Delivery Service:

It has been revealed that we may be kissing goodbye to the trusty postman, as American airspace may soon be buzzing with the sights of Drones. This comes as Google giants finally announce a date for the launch of their drone delivery service, "Project Wing." The project initialises the aim to deliver goods to consumers by 2017 via drone delivery.

David Vos, project leader declared: "our goal is to have our commercial business up and running in 2017."  However, no further details have been given relating to what type of drones they will be using  and what sort of packages they will be delivering.

Originally, Project Wing was announced in August 2014 and has been testing for over a year now. Google even claims that they'll be able to cover five miles in five minutes. Not only are they expected to do deliver standard deliveries, drones could be used to airlift in food supplies to emergency situations.

Google aren't the first however, to try out this quirky method of transportation. In early 2015 Alibaba,  China's largest online retailer underwent a three day trial of drone delivery around its offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Furthermore, Amazon is readying its own drone delivery service. Even more so, the co-founders of Skype unveiled their own delivery system- a robot. The robot is supposedly capable of driving on the pavement at a speed of 4mph and can carry a weight of 2 Ibs worth of goods.

Looks like an end of an era for the good old postman.

  • Long live the like...

Twitter's 'favourite' button has been a historical part of Twitter's development and distinguishes it from other social media sites. When you think of Twitter, the essential features and actions you think of when acknowledging Tweets, are essentially retweeting and favouriting. However, it seems that these days are officially over and we have waved goodbye to the favourite button.

The favourite button could have been considered as an initial action in signalling agreement, support or showing laughter relating to an individual's tweet. This is all set to change though and it appears that the social media site is taking a leaf out of their rivals book, Facebook and replacing it with a 'like' button. The like button will be represented by a little heart symbol, that becomes red once you've clicked on it-how sweet.

Twitter Product Manager Akarshan Kumar said in a blog post, "We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers."

"The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones."

We aren't sure when this will be visually available on smart devices and apps, but we are ensured that it will be very soon.

  • Think before you snap...

I am a HUGE fan of Snapchat. Why? Because the pictures only last a few seconds. It's quick, fun and a little a bit risky...but all part of the fun.

However, the thought of the picture only lasting a few seconds (unless a cheeky individual screenshots it of course) might essentially be all over as the app is changing their terms and conditions. This means that they now own EVERY picture taken on the app...dun dun dunnnn! Not only this, but if you use the app, you are in fact consenting to Snapchat doing whatever it likes with your photographs...eeekk. This could be awkward.

The privacy policy also claims that by sharing your content on the service, you are granting Snapchat permission to use all your details; including your name, likeness and even your voice, anywhere in the world, with no restriction, on all media an distribution channels...forever. Pretty scary. Imagine, people who are taking photos and thinking they are only temporary and private, could in fact appear on Snapchat's promotional material, on its website or even its social media accounts. Scary stuff.

So a tip for the day...think before you snap.

  • Yamaha Motors Unveil Bike-Riding Humanoid Robot

Just when we think we've seen it all when it comes to robots, this happens.

Yamaha Motors have unveiled a humanoid robot, that has been created to surpass humans focusing on the eventuality of riding an unmodified motor bike. Impressive right? Just check out the video below:

It's amazing. As you can see in the video, the Motobot is making it's way around a race track whilst teasing motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi, that he has the capability to surpass him.

The detailing that has gone into the machinery and the production of this Motobot, is mind-blowing. You can see the robot making its own gear changes and even executing the clutch-control of the bike. It's hard to believe the technical ability that this piece of machinery has.

The robot however, isn't perfect just yet. It is still in its early progression and requires a pair of training wheels to achieve balance, whilst Yamaha work on their ultimate goal.

Like previously mentioned, the final goal is for the robot to actually race on a full scaled, unmodified motorbike at a speed of up to 124 mph. Wow. I don't know about everyone else, but I am most definitely, exited about this day.

  • Candy Crush Facebook invitations are on the way out...THANK GOD

Hands holding a phone with Candy Crush loaded on it

Love it or hate it, everyone knows someone who spends all day long on Facebook playing, you guest it, Candy Crush.

Don't get me wrong, Candy Crush was all fun and games to begin with. But thousands notifications and invitations later...I think it's fair to say it was beginning to get on everyone's nerves and that's putting it lightly.

However, this may all be about to change, according to a Q&A time in India with Mr Zuckerberg himself.

A heroic stranger commented on Zuckerberg's Facebook post advertising the event: "I don't want any more invitations to Candy Crush. How can I stop it?"

When the question was read out at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, as could be expected there was an absolute uproar in cheers! It looks like I'm not the only one who feels this way about the game.

Zuckerberg replied to question, stating : "This is where these Town Hall Q&As are really useful because I actually saw this question, that it was the top voted question on my thread,"

"So I sent a message to the person who runs the team in charge of our developer platform and I said by the time I do this Town Hall Q&A, I think it would be good if we had a solution to this problem."

The conversation continued with someone else stating: "some tools that are kind of outdated" which allow users to send invitations to people who have already received the requests in the past and those who "don't play games on Facebook".

Zuckerberg responded: "We hadn't prioritised shutting that down because we just had other priorities but if this is the top thing that people care about then we'll prioritise that and we'll do it."

Although, it doesn't state when this will go ahead and happen, at least it is a comfort that you are not the only one who is mildly irritated by this!

I'm not to sure that King, makers of Candy Crush would be too pleased though, as they are yet to comment.
